To sign up for an area to survey for loons this year:

First select your lake or pond from the drop down list of lakes. Check the town name to ensure you are selecting the correct lake.
Once you select your lake, click “Find Survey Areas.” The survey areas that are still available for your lake will appear on the map to the right. Note: You will only be able to see and select survey areas that have not already been chosen by other counters.
On the map, click on a survey where you would like to count loons and a table of information will pop up. On the table, note the Survey number for this section.
Select this survey area number from Survey Area drop down list.
Click “Show on Map” and the map will zoom to this survey area. Note that selecting survey area “0” assigns you to count the entire lake (this will only be an option for small lakes).
Please click on the links to your lake map, your survey section, and the Loon Count form and instructions and print these to take with you to the loon count on July 20th.

Loon Count Registration

Thanks for your interest in registering to participate in Maine Audubon's loon count. The count happens every year on the third Saturday of July from 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Additional counts before and after that date are welcome and help us estimate loon detectability. Once you register and save a password, you'll be able to log onto the portal every year to sign up for a specific lake (or section of a lake) for counting, and to submit your data.
